The Bookkeeper Who's Actually Been There

I didn't just study home service businesses. I ran one.

There are a lot of bookkeepers out there. Most of them learned the job from a classroom or a spreadsheet. But very few of them have spent five years running their own home service operation, juggling three different services, wearing every hat, making every mistake, and eventually figuring out how to make it work.

The Story

Thirty Years of the Best Business School You Never Heard Of

I bartended at locally owned restaurants for thirty years. And for thirty of those years, Friday happy hour was my classroom.

Business owners came in after a hard week. They talked. I listened. I asked questions. I picked their brains about what it really took to build something, keep it alive, manage people, survive the slow months, and not lose the plot when things got busy.

I absorbed it all. How they thought about money. How they made decisions. What they worried about at 2 in the morning. What they wished they'd known sooner.

I Didn't Just Learn About This. I Did This.

In 2018, I started my own business. Home organizing. Packing and moving. Eventually, home cleaning. Three services. Full solopreneur.

For five years, I wore every hat. I was the one booking the clients, showing up to the jobs, handling the scheduling conflicts, chasing the invoices, trying to figure out where the money went when a month felt busy but the bank account didn't agree.

I lived inside the anxiety of not knowing my numbers. And eventually, I figured out that the numbers were the thing I needed to understand first.

“I'm not a bookkeeper who learned about your industry. I am your industry. I just happened to find bookkeeping along the way.”

It Started Before the Business

Before I had my own business, I had my aunt's. She ran a home cleaning operation. She brought me along to client houses when I was a kid. I watched how she built relationships with people over time. How they let her into their homes because they trusted her.

I saw the hustle of home service from the inside before I was old enough to understand what I was seeing. That foundation never left me.

By the time I connected all those dots and found bookkeeping, I didn't just bring technical knowledge. I brought thirty years of paying attention to the people who build things.

Why Prosper & Pearl?

A pearl doesn't form overnight. It starts from a single grain of sand. Layer by layer, over time, something irritating becomes something beautiful and valuable.

That's how I think about business growth. The businesses I love working with aren't looking for a magic fix. They're building something real, layer by layer.

Prosper and Pearl. The name is the mission.
